During the final week before the release of 'The Dark Knight Rises', the YouTube channel of "warnerbrosuktrailers" changed their background theme to a poster of Batman and Bane from the film, focusing entirely on the film in order to attract as much attention and awareness as possible.
Compared to The Dark Knight released in 2008, 'The Dark Knight Rises' is very similar in terms of the way they advertise and market the film. However, in order to differentiate the TDKR from TDK, Warner Bros designed their posters in a different way, including much less colours and saturation apart from small features such as the belts shown on Batman and Catwoman, as well as the mask of Bane. They have included the usual aspects in order to keep consistency and to let the audience know that this is a Batman film, specifically a Christopher Nolan film, such as the mise en scene and the Batman insignia. It is clearly visible that the two different sets of posters displayed above and in their own way different simply because of the colouring, for the TDKR they have included much less colours than the blue tint which made the TDK iconic for the audience to recognise.
The two front covers shown above are 'two world-exclusive covers' released by the film magazine Empire, specifically for 'The Dark Knight Rises' which will later become collectable editions for fans of the brand. Batman is shown in a normal stance wearing his iconic gear that the audience is easily able to identify, strong, masculine and a fan favourite for many. Catwoman is displayed in a similar aspect, however, instead of a normal stance, she is displayed facing backwards, fully showing the back of her body. This is for what we know as the 'male gaze'; because she is showing her features, the front cover will attract the male audience of the film successfully, the Catwoman cover will also simply attract the female audience because instead of just a male superhero in the film there is also a female superhero fighting alongside him.
